A reminder to be mindful

I want to improve my mindfulness. So I added the following note to the Google Keep app on my phone and set it to send me a reminder every day at 8 am:

Be mindful. Be attentive.

Observe the world around you. Use all of your senses to their fullest capacity.

Use your eyes to observe the world around you. Look for things you’ve never noticed. What do you see?

Listen to the sounds vibrating around you. What do you hear?

Be aware of what you are physically touching and feeling. How does it feel?

Identify any smells or tastes you have. What do you smell? What can you taste?

Enhance your presence and mindfulness by increasing your awareness of all the senses you have been blessed with.

What other reminders can I add to my list to help me to become more mindful?

  1. This is wonderful Justin. When I lose my way at living mindfully, I focus on my breath. It’s a great way to get me plugged back into the moment. I just focus on taking a couple of really deep breaths and it’s like a touch stone for me. 🙂

  2. Great idea! I’ve just set an alarm on my phone to go off everyday at 11AM to remind me to be more mindful. Thanks for sharing 🙂


  3. Making sure I sit for a few minutes in meditation after my first cup of coffee each morning helps me be more mindful throughout the day. I also try to make a habit of noticing the energy in a room when I walk through a door. Those are just some to add to your list, which is a great list of reminders.

  4. I love this! I’m working on a self-experimentation too with the 100 goal challenge, but what I really like about this is that it doesn’t have to be limited to one type of thing. I also realize with this read that you don’t have to commit fully or invest big to test. You gave me some really good ideas with what I can do. Keep this up!!

  5. This is like a wake up call to our human senses. Some just let them be of use according to how the world asks of them but when we stop, and start to use them according to how we want, may be the world ca then be a beautiful paradise. 🙂 – Cezane

    1. I agree with you completely Cezane! The world is so much more beautiful when we take some time to enjoy it through all of the senses we are blessed with.
